Refresh and Renew

Recently, I chose to re-arrange the furniture in my home. I switched the dining room furnishing with the office furnishings. I added additional seating to the living room. I down-sized the second playroom (yes, you read that correctly...the ‘second’ playroom...ridiculous). As I gazed upon the remaining playroom with all of it’s “pre-packaged” entertainment, my gaze landed on the recycled toys that my daughters built on their own. Somehow they were able to push through the clutter that I had created to find their own creative and imaginative selves. Thank Goddess!

I sit here now in my refreshed living room still amazed by that fact that just a simple push or pull in a different direction can bring new life into a space. It reminds me that each time we come to our mat, it’s an opportunity to push or pull in a slightly different direction to refresh our Selves. We have a tendency to settle into patterns. And this would be all well and good if 100% of our patterns were ‘good’ for us. More often, we allow our negative thoughts to crowd and distort our view of our authentic Selves.

This week, come to your mat with a beginner’s mind — a fresh perspective. Unearth, discover and appreciate something that you haven’t noticed in a long while. Be open to the possibility of falling in love with yourself again. “Never forget that once upon a time, in an unguarded moment, you recognized yourself as a friend.” - Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love.
